Morgan Heritage wins Grammy for “Best Reggae Album”

58th-annual-grammy-awards-arrivals[1]From fans to fellow musicians, accolades poured in to family band Morgan Heritage for their best reggae album win at the 58th annual Grammy Awards last week.

The band’s album “Strictly Roots,” from the CTBC Music Group, bested the other nominees in the category: “Branches of the Same Tree” by Rocky Dawuni (Cumbancha); “The Cure,” Jah Cure (VP Records); “Acousticalevy,” Barrington Levy (Doctor Dread Presents); and “Zion Awake,” Luciano (Vpal Music).

The Morgan Heritage band — made up of children of reggae artist Denroy Morgan — reached out to fans on social media and showed their appreciation. “Thank you to all our Fans and Team that played a part of Strictly Roots Album! WE WON…YES RASTA! @TheGRAMMYs,” tweeted the group.

Praises for the Grammy win came from a wide ranges of sources, including People’s National Party leader and Jamaica Prime Minister Portia Simpson-Miller; Stephen, Ziggy and Rohan Marley; the U.S. Embassy Jamaica; Tessanne Chin, Maxi Priest, Shaggy and John Legend.
