The city of Detroit often goes unrecognized for many things—business, innovation, culture, and diversity to name a few.
But thanks in part to The Powerful Women, an organization cultivating a culture of excellence for women in Detroit and beyond, the city has been reborn. On February 23, the Detroit City Council honored Meagan Ward, Brittni Brown, Toni Jones, Jasmine Dantzler, and Kimberly Brown-Dobine, for their work within the community and dedication to molding a dynamic network of women leaders.
In a statement released by the organization, The Powerful Women, founded by Meagan Ward in 2013, was built on a desire to serve womankind. Meagan, recently featured in Black Enterprise and The Huffington Post for her personal entrepreneurial journey, works collectively with four Detroit-based female entrepreneurs who form The Powerful Women’s executive board. The world-renowned organization, therefore, aims to cultivate a culture of excellence for women through high standards and accountability. The organization is described as, “A unique troop of fabulously fierce, yet like-minded individuals who are on a journey to self-discovery.”
Every year, The Powerful Women hosts its signature conference, The Powerful Women’s Weekend, which attracts attendees from Michigan and across the country. “The event, which includes a series of luncheons and workshops, promotes unity and self-confidence. This year the Powerful Women’s weekend will take place June 25-26 at the Henry Hotel in Dearborn, Michigan. Visit www.thePowerfulWomen.org to learn more.
